Murphy, C. E. (Catie): WORLDWALKER DUOLOGY

Author: Murphy, C. E. (Catie)
Series: WORLDWALKER DUOLOGY
Plot Type: UF
Ratings: V4, S2, H3
Publisher and Titles: Del Rey
           Truthseeker (2010)
           Wayfinder (8-2011)

Lara Jansen has been burdened all her life by always being able to detect a lie. She herself can speak only the truth, and she hears discordant music when someone lies to her. In Truthseeker, Lara meets David Kirwen, the local TV weatherman, and realizes immediately that he is using a false name. She is correct.

David is really Dafydd ap Caerwyn, a Seely (faerie) prince from the Barrow-lands (an underground land beneath Wales). Dafydd has spent a century searching the world for a truth seeker, which is exactly what Lara is. He soon convinces her to go back with him to the Barrow-lands and discover the truth about who murdered his brother.

Lara and Dafydd are soon caught in the middle between the Seelie and the Unseelie courts, with lies and power struggles on both sides--not to mention constant attempts on their lives. This series is more fantasy than UF, but it does take place in modern-day Boston (at least it does when the main characters are not off battling the bad guys in the Barrow-lands).

Although a few inconsistencies emerge in the stories (i.e., characters sometimes comment on things that they seemingly have neither witnessed nor heard about), the action is fast moving and the relationships among the characters are solid.
